Communitybased education is the systemic integration of education and community support services. Community-Based Education Programs are located within the communities they serve, providing a variety of resources to complement the traditional Pre-K-12 education curricula, to offset non-academic barriers that inhibit learning, and to foster the life-long learning continuum.
Community-based education programs work with schools, government, businesses, private foundations, and community partners to empower children, adults, and families to become independent members of their communities.
The PAIU community-based education committeeis a team ofprofessionals working collaboratively across Pennsylvania to identify, sustain, and promote current community-based resources, to build community capacity within systems, to broaden community representation, to reduce duplicative services and costs, and to develop a process for future resource sharing and strategic planning to ensure maximum benefit to the communities served.
