Intermediate units provide specialized programs and services to the 500 public school districts, plus nonpublic and charter schools across the commonwealth. Often, IUs have a person or small team managing the variety of programs or services offer, so staff lean into each other through communities of similar IU roles, called job alike groups, within PAIU. Each job alike group specializes in a role or category of work commonly performed at an IU. Individual staff serving in those capacities can participate to supplement their knowledge and expertise, gain professional development, share and learn best practices, build community with their peers from across the state and so much more.
